It was a really lovely day and we said we would like to live at Shiplake Memorial Hall as we felt so at home! This is our third time of hiring the hall .It is a beautiful building in a delightful setting, with great facilities and very efficient, friendly and helpful management . This makes hiring and using the hall easy and very clear. We will certainly be recommending the hall to our friends and family. We give you 10 out of 10.

I attended a wedding reception here. It was an excellent venue in a nice location. The kids play park was handy for entertaining the kids between the meal and the dancing.

We have used the hall for the second time for children's party. Everyone complimented the venue. They said it was pleasant, just right in terms of size, they liked the interior, they did feel it was appropriate for the event we celebrated. Car parking was very convenient. It was great that previous party left us the tables already set up. (This was by prior arrangement.) I don't see any areas for improvement to be honest. Perhaps to attract people more I would offer colourful lights as part of the package for children parties - kind of bonus that would convince people to use the hall. But for us, the hall provided all facilities we needed and the party went very well. It was great to have music equipment as part of the pack, children loved to be on the stage - it was more popular then bouncy castle :-) The children were crying as they were leaving the party....only because they didn't want to go home :-)

The kitchen facilities are superb, the size of the hall is great too, plenty of space and the high vaulted ceiling adds charm especially at night with a disco and lights.

Clean and ready to use when we arrived. Lots of bulletins everywhere giving instructions on how to do things e.g. work the dishwasher, unlock the main doors. Our only minute problem was realising the black button to unlock the side door was the unlocking button when we first arrived.

The hall and kitchen was absolutely spotless. Your cleaners are amazing. As it was a children's party there was a moment when white chocolate buttons were on the floor, when I picked them up they were as clean as when they were dropped! Amazing.
The kitchen was really well stocked with plastic jugs for squash and forks for the cakes.
The swipe card entry was just a brilliant process - so so simple. As we had a few 2 year odds running around the fact that you had to press the exit button to open the front doors was brilliant as it meant they were secure at all times and could run around without us panicking they could get into the carpark.
I will not hesitate to book the hall again for my daughters 3rd birthday and I am already in discussions to have the hall on NYE.

Lovely space. Complicated entry and exit instructions! Couldn't get in the kitchen! Normally use Harpsden hall which is half the price but not as nice.

We're actually 10% cheaper than Harpsden Hall based on their published rates - you get a very good deal!

Sorry it's taken me a little while to get around to thanking you for the hall and all your help, it was an absolutely fantastic day! People are still talking about it which is so nice! and of course people wanted to book in again for next year which speaks volumes. Many people commented on how beautiful the hall looked and the facilities were great. A big 'thank you' to Gareth and Kevin for all your help and I hope we left everything as it should be. Please pass on my thanks to the committee for the very generous contribution of the hall costs, really appreciated.

As ever, many thanks. The hall was superb.
The hall was in excellent condition and clean on arrival. The instructions were generally clear. We were confused however about the rubbish facilities as I thought there would be something similar to a crate, but then noticed I believe from a previous party that rubbish bags had just been left outside. I'm not sure it's fair to charge extra for rubbish as the hall is already a bit more expensive than other venues, although admittedly it is to a better standard.

We're sorry for the confusion. The normal requirement is for hirers to take all rubbish home but we have an option for use to be made of Grundon bins. We raise a charge to contribute towards the cost from Grundon and do not make a profit on this service.

Attractive hall, great facilities, Clean, well run, contact people lovely (Gareth, Kevin and Lottie) and onsite very quickly if any problem. Only issue we had for our Christmas fayre was parking. Partly our own fault for using part of the car park for bouncy castle. Large volume of cars had to park quite far away.

The hall was lovely and was perfect for my Son's Christening. I understand the damage deposit but I find it a little strict. My father informed me after the conversation I had with your venue that the chairs were not in piles of 8 when we first got them out. I am not worried about the £5 but having organised the event alone, worked all day during the event and left the hall in a very reasonable state, I find it a bit much to charge for chairs being stacked at the wrong height - my family were trying to help and in the chaos of trying to be out on time I had no time to tell them the stacking limitations.

We're sorry for your concern about the damage deposit charge, which we had discussed with you beforehand. We had a few concerns after the hire but the only one we raised a charge for was for restacking tables and chairs. This was because our safety requirements were very clearly displayed on the storeroom door. The charge covered no more than the cost to us of the cleaner's extra time in restacking.

An excellent venue, well looked after. Kitchen excellent. One suggestion, we spent some time trying to switch 4 lights off at end of evening which were on outside canopy. Not the ones of the walls which went on and off with movement. May be good to advise users that these outside lights are on a timer and would go off on their own!

It is a lovely, attractive Hall with easy access and great for our Tennis Tournament with courts next door. However, we found the dishwasher to be inadequate when catering for 100 people and it could do with at least another shelf. Also the water heater doesn't get hot enough to make tea and we struggled heating up Quiches in the warming oven - they didn't get very hot.

Thanks for your comments. We are sorry for the concerns you had on the kitchen equipment. We have checked and rectified issues with the dishwasher, which is a commercial model with a 3min wash cycle and normally more than adequate for 100 settings, and the water heater. The warming cupboard does get quite hot but for heating things from cold it is better to use the main oven.

The hall was perfect for us and we'd certainly look to use it again in the future. It would have been nice to have been able to use the kitchen to make a cup of tea, but I understand this would probably have been an additional cost.

All the extras offered made the use of the hall utterly painless. Time to set up and clear down was vital to making it a great experience. The price was an absolute bargain!

Using Shiplake hall as our reception venue really was fantastic and made for such an amazing day. The facilities are incredible and the kitchen/fridge/freezer space for an event like this is perfect. The wedding package with clean up and tables/chairs away is a great service and the price for doing all that is incredibly reasonable, most wedding outfits hike up the costs when you mention wedding!
The card card system is very clever and although we had some troubles it was all very quickly resolved. Gaining access to the hall before and after the event was exceedingly flexible and all the staff were very friendly and helpful.
As for using the hall again I would definitely recommend it to others to do their weddings or event there.

What a lovely venue. We had a marvellous afternoon at SMH made special by venue and its comprehensive facilities. It was perfect for our party and so very well equipped with everything we needed. Your caretaker explained everything on our first visit and we were greeted and helped by one of the trustees. All our guests were very impressed and some had never been there before but I'm sure they will use it in the future. Well done Shiplake Memorial Hall for making our celebration very memorable. We will be delighted to recommend Shiplake Memorial Hall to any who asks.

Great experience, would thoroughly recommend to anyone. Meeting with Caretaker particularly useful to show me how to gain access, use facilities etc. Incredibly friendly man and very flexible with the timing of meeting up.

Excellent venue for a party - kitchen facilities very good and plenty of space, maybe would still be helpful to have decent size serving spoons rather than just the ladles ( I think I made this comment before) - tablespoons are just not big enough when serving quantities from e.g. a pie type dish. Otherwise no complaints!

The hall was a perfect venue for our daughter's 1st birthday. There was plenty of space for a swifish buffet, children had the space to play and they loved performing on the stage. The kitchen and tea and coffee facilities were great and so easy to pass through the kitchen window. Lottie and caretaker were very nice and helpful and it was very important while making a booking. It was my first big party we organised and their advice was very useful. Thank you.

The hall has a lovely 'intimate and warm' feel to it - the set up now is excellent for tables and chairs, perfect access for toilets and those with disabilities. The kitchen is really good to work in, with plenty of space and good worktop areas. The oven/cooker worked well, BUT I could not reconfigure the shelving to use the three shelves which would have been beneficial to me, can this be done? The warming cabinet is a godsend as with all the other equipment you have. Perhaps some large serving spoons would be handy as you only have large ladles and the large dessert spoons aren't big enough for serving portions for a crowd at speed - perhaps a note with the cutlery equipment available, should state that there are no sharp knives provided or large spoons and no chopping boards. I am debating the 'good value for money' - the hire of the hall alone seems reasonable, the use of the kitchen puts a big extra cost onto the user - especially for a charity event, which would make me think twice about using again for this purpose. However, all in all it is an excellent venue with excellent state of the art facilities and I cannot really find fault.

Only minor area of improvement might be some removable laminated signs to hang on Cigarette ashtrays outside to identify them as such as they were mistaken for flower holders! and a sign for the door to say exit only after 9pm so as not to disturb the neighbours. Aside from this I can't think of anything! Wonderful setting, wonderful building, great facilities and lovely staff. Well done!

Mostly fine. The cutlery and glasses needed a wash or a good polish .We could only find one saucepan and no serving spoons. It is a good kitchen but I would have like a list of what was supplied. We spent a lot of time going home for chopping knives, bread-knife, serving dishes etc. I may have just assumed things like that would be there. I love the hall and hope there will be a next time.

It was very hot when we arrived, and wonder whether money could be saved by turning down the heating, especially in mild weather? Still find getting access to and leaving the hall quite complicated. Xxxxx is dealing with the deposit, so I can't comment on that at the moment.

Having experience of using many other halls we have never had such good service as with Shiplake - very prompt responses to any queries and so helpful. It is very efficiently run and that is reflected in the standard and high quality of the facilities and the overall cleanliness. Will definitely hire again for family parties - congratulations to all involved in maintaining the hall and booking process.

We had a great party thank you - everyone was really impressed with the hall. Especially nice to be able to use the outdoor area in the sunshine. One thing I would say, we weren't aware from any of the booking information or website that there weren't any sharp knives kept in the kitchen. We had a large cake for the celebration and really needed a decent knife to portion it up. I can understand why you don't keep them in the kitchen but it would have been good to have known beforehand so we could have made sure we had our own.
